2.A Cat Has Been Mayor Of An Alaskan Town Since 1997

Meet Stubbs, who is now serving Talkeetna, Alaska as mayor! Talkeetna is a CDP in Alaska that has a population of less than 1000. In 1997, the residents of the area rejected all the human candidates who were running for mayor and elected Stubbs in write-in ballot. Since then, Stubbs has officially remained the mayor of Talkeetna. Every day approximately 40 visitors come to see him! A couple of years ago, a stray dog attacked Stubbs and broke its sternum. The cat had to stay nine days in the hospital to recover from the attack. Stubbs fans around the world raised money for the surgery. Currently, Stubbs is healthy and bossing around Talkeetna as he always does.
