Captain Edward John Smith was responsible for the Titanic tragedy. He ignored iceberg warnings, and didn't slow down the ship even in the darkness. Captain Smith didn't even listen to his pilots. However, he spent last few minutes of his life, releasing officers from duties in a bid to help them protect themselves. His last words were, "Well boys, you've done your duty and done it well. I ask no more of you. I release you. You know the rule of the sea. It's every man for himself now, and God bless you."
